The International Labour Organization estimates almost 25 million human trafficking victims around the world. As we recognize Human Rights Day on December 10 and National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on January 11, Mercy Investment Services is using several new resources to help in our collective effort to combat forms of modern-day slavery.
- The Bureau of International Labor Affairs’ Better Trade Tool helps advance efforts in supply chain transparency and empowers users to learn about labor exploitation risks in global supply chains.
- The Global Child Forum’s report “The State of Children’s Rights and Business 2021” evaluates 832 global companies from nine sectors on how they protect and respect children’s rights in their operations and supply chains.
- The Biden Administration recently released the new National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking that includes a deeper analysis of the disproportionate impacts of human trafficking on vulnerable and underserved populations and includes strategies for addressing societal and economic inequities that may make these communities more vulnerable.
Resources such as these help inform Mercy Investments’ engagements with travel and hospitality, apparel, information and communications technology, and other companies on their efforts to prevent human trafficking and protect human rights.
