As part of its multipronged approach to ensuring equitable access to medicines, Mercy Investment Services’ Environmental Solutions Fund includes an innovative solution to ensuring safe medication shipping and delivery while minimizing the environmental impact.
More than 45 companies use AeroSafe Global’s innovative packaging technology to maintain medication temperatures during transport to 85 countries. The parcel-sized, reusable shipping containers with thermal insulation material protect the safety and efficacy of temperature-sensitive vaccines and drugs while using 75 percent less energy to maintain the appropriate temperature. The technology also reduces pharmaceutical waste, with 25 percent of vaccines delivered using traditional shipping methods becoming ineffective. AeroSafe estimates that for every one billion doses delivered, three million kilograms of waste are averted from landfills. With reusable packaging, reduced energy consumption and less product waste, AeroSafe saved 1.58M kilograms of carbon dioxide in 2022.
