Software helps communities and companies prepare for climate risks

The United Nations calls climate change “the defining crisis of our time and it is happening even more quickly than we feared.” Through the Environmental Solutions Fund, Mercy’s investment in Jupiter Intelligence, a leader in climate risk analytics, is helping several industries identify the physical risk of climate change.

Jupiter’s software helps companies analyze and plan for disruptions caused by weather conditions and extreme climate events such as flooding, wind, heat, drought and wildfires. Companies ranging from agriculture, retail, construction and insurance to nongovernmental organizations and the United States government use Jupiter’s software to generate climate analytics that inform risk management, site selection, design requirements, supply chain management, and shareholder disclosures. In addition, Jupiter provides discounted or free software to nonprofits and under-resourced communities and countries.

Recently, Jupiter announced a partnership with The Nature Conservancy, a global environmental organization, to identify and protect sensitive natural areas and estimate future heat and water stresses associated with climate change in Colombia’s Magdalena River Basin. Jupiter is also working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to analyze coastal ecosystems, precipitation and water level predictions to help communities mitigate the effects of climate change.

Mercy Investment Services’ Environmental Solutions Fund invests in technologies such as Jupiter, as well as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and water sustainability. Learn more about our investments.
