Investment creates clean energy capacity in Indonesia

Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous country has experienced significant growth and development, which has increased energy demand. The United Nations estimates that still a large number of the 267 million residents lack adequate access to electricity. An investment in Mercy Investment Services’ Environmental Solutions Fund is creating clean energy capacity for the country, which aligns with the government’s pledge to phase out all coal-fired power stations by 2055.

Lombok Solar encompasses almost 22,000 ground-mounted photovoltaic solar panels on Lombok Island in eastern Indonesia’s Sambelia District. The project, which has capacity for 5.4MW of energy, avoided approximately 4,040 tonnes of carbon emissions in the first three months of 2022. In addition to energy generation, Other initiatives include scholarships, women and child healthcare programs, and social donations to the local community.
