A call for an end to gun violence

May 26, 2022

As we mourn the unnecessary loss of lives in Buffalo and Uvalde – as well as the more than 100 gun violence victims in the United States every day – we pray for the families and communities that are suffering. We also ask ourselves what we can do to stop this public health epidemic devastating our nation. We continue to support the Sisters of Mercy’s Critical Concern for nonviolence as an active shareholder holding companies including Smith and Wesson and Sturm Ruger accountable for their role in this crisis. Next week, Sturm Ruger shareholders will vote on Mercy’s co-filed resolution asking for a third-party human rights impact assessment. While this cannot bring back the parents, children, friends, co-workers and family members lost to gun violence, it’s a critical step for the gun manufacturer to acknowledge and consider the role its product has in these terrifying and devastating events.
