Since 2008, Susan Makos has been at the heart of the development and success of Mercy Investment Services’ comprehensive socially responsible investing program. Including 20 years with Catholic Health Partners, Susan has dedicated her career to creating systemic change on behalf of the Sisters of Mercy. As one of Mercy Investment Services’ first employees, Susan’s vision, passion and dedication have been instrumental in building the foundation of our program. “Mercy Investment Services would not be what it is today without Susan’s endless dedication and extensive expertise,” says Bryan Pini, president and chief investment officer. “Her passion for the common good will continue to inspire us and motivate us as we continue the work Susan started.”

Susan has worked diligently to translate the Sisters of Mercy’s critical concerns into requests for action at the corporate level in order to create positive change for all in our global community. Susan’s knowledge of and deep belief in the shareholder advocacy process have amplified Mercy Investment Services’ voice with corporations. “The impact Susan has had on faith-based investing is far-reaching,” says Cathy Rowan, chairperson of the Mercy Investment Services Board of Directors. “From her engagements with companies to improve their diversity and inclusion efforts, support just immigration policy, and address climate change, to her leadership of the Board of Directors of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility and to building Mercy Investment Services’ shareholder advocacy program, Susan has shared her skills, experiences and vision to advance corporate responsibility and accountability.”

The end of the year will begin a well-deserved retirement for Susan. Although we will miss her insight and leadership, please join us in wishing Susan well as she begins this new phase and enjoys time with her husband, Jim.
