One of Mercy Investment Services’ Environmental Solutions Fund investments is playing an important role in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

Starsight provides clean, reliable energy through solar-diesel-battery hybrid systems in Nigeria, where residents with access to electricity rely on an inconsistent, unreliable power grid. Services such as hospitals face the same issue, making it difficult during the pandemic to quickly test patients for coronavirus. Over only five days, Starsight, in collaboration with the local and national government, installed a new solar power system at the hospital in Ikole in Ekiti State. The reliable power system will reduce testing time for possible COVID-19 patients. The hospital is the first of five planned projects, as Starsight has designated more than 1MW to support healthcare facilities in their efforts against COVID-19. Read more about Starsight’s work in Nigeria, where it has installed approximately 27 MW of generation assets and 20 MW of storage at 362 sites such as banks, pharmacies, gas stations, schools and other commercial and industrial customers.

Mercy Investment Services’ investment in Starsight is one of 23 Environmental Solutions Fund investments dedicated to cleantech, water, green buildings, and sustainable agriculture and forestry. Learn more about the fund and the impact of its investments.
