Answering the call of Laudato Si

In his 2015 Laudato Si encyclical, Pope Francis says, “The effects of the present imbalance can only be reduced by our decisive action, here and now. We need to reflect on our accountability before those who will have to endure the dire consequences.” To foster this decisive action, the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has called for organizations, communities and individuals to join the seven-year Laudato Si Action Platform to outline specific goals and activities that will more fully address the environmental crisis.

More than 400 religious congregations, including the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, have enrolled in the platform and are submitting their actions for the seven goals:

  • Response to the Cry of the Earth
  • Response to the Cry of the Poor
  • Ecological Economics
  • Adoption of Sustainable Lifestyles
  • Ecological Education
  • Ecological Spirituality
  • Community Resilience and Empowerment

Mercy Investment Services has incorporated the calls of Laudato Si into our investments and our social responsibility philosophy for several years. Mercy Investment Services is submitting its goals and achievements to the platform in collaboration with the Institute, as part of the Institute-wide commitment to take up the “urgent appeal” of Laudato Si.
